The national football squad coach Henrique Calisto has approved the list of 50 players who will be summoned to the national and U23 squads to prepare for the Asian Games (Asiad) and the ASEAN Football Federation Cup (AFF Cup 2010).

Both events will take place in late 2010. However, Calisto said that the priority would be given to the AFF Cup.

He said at least six members of the current U23 team will be selected for the national squad, who will play at the AFF Cup 2010. This will create openings on the U23 team that will be filled with new faces such as Hoa Phat Hanoi club’s Dinh Thanh Trung, Quang Ninh Coal’s Tran Dang Binh, Hanoi T&T’s Nguyen Van Quan, and Nam Dinh’s Pham Van Thuan.

The list will be made public this week.

According to the schedule, the national team will convene on September 6 in Hanoi. The national team, instructed by Calisto, will take part in the Thang Long-Hanoi International Football Tournament from September 20-24 in Hanoi. The team will face U23 Australia, U23 Kuwait, and U23 North Korea.

At the same time, the U23 squad will group together on September 6, led by coach Phan Thanh Hung and Nguyen Phuc Nguyen Chuong, at the Thanh Long Sport Centre in HCM City to prepare for games against the Olympic teams of Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, also under the Thang Long-Hanoi International Football Tournament in HCM City.

After this event, the U23 team will practice to prepare for the Asiad in China while the national squad will drill for the AFF Cup in Vietnam and Indonesia.
