Hanoi: Stadium faces fixture meltdown
Published: 27/08/2010 05:00
The capital’s Hang Day Stadium faces the risk of overload for the 2011 football season with four teams needing it for their home games. Ha Noi will have three teams – Ha Noi T&T, Hoa Phat Ha Noi and the newly-promoted Ha Noi ACB – in the V-League next season. Viettel will play in the lower First Division. The possible overload poses worries about game fixtures, especially training times for visiting teams, for Ha Noi Football Federation general secretary Phan Anh Tu. For example, when Viettel played the last First-Division round last Saturday, Khataco Khanh Hoa could not use the ground to prepare for its decisive match with Hoa Phat Ha Noi the next day. Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) deputy general secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi concedes that four teams owning the same home turf is uncommon for Viet Nam’s football. But the VFF would be able to arrange the competition schedule for the clubs. The deputy general secretary said the timetable for the next football season would be completed only after Ha Noi T&T contest the AFC Champions League or AFC Cup. Repair of the 20,000-seat Hang Day stadium at a cost of VND60billion (US$3 million) for Ha Noi’s 1,000th anniversary will help alleviate the shortage of grounds. Source: VNS
