Vietnam Olympic team to have friendly with India; National Junior Tennis Champs concluded in Da Nang; National beach volleyball tourney concludes; Tien Minh to compete at World Badminton Champs. Vietnam Olympic team to have friendly with India

The Vietnam Olympic football team will take on their Indian counterparts in a friendly match due to be held in India on September 16.

As scheduled, Vietnamese players will depart for India on September 14 and test their skills with the hosts two days later.

The match, which is organised by the All Indian Football Federation is a good chance for the two teams in preparation for the up-coming16th Asian Games.

After the friendly, the Vietnamese Olympic team will return home to take part in the International Football Tournament - Millennial Thang Long-Hanoi Cup to be held at Thong Nhat stadium in Ho Chi Minh City from September 28 to October 2.

National Junior Tennis Champs concluded in Da Nang

The National Junior Tennis Championships-Prudence Cup 2010 finished on August 18 in Tuyen Son sports village, Da Nang after 5 days of fierce competition.

The winners of the men’s singles were Nguyen Hoang Viet from Vinh Phuc (under 10), Nguyen Dac Tien from Hanoi (under 12), Ly Hoang Nam from Binh Duong (under 14), Nguyen Le Tuan Ngoc also from Binh Duong (under 16) and Pham Minh Tuan from Da Nang (under 18).

In the similar women’s events and age groups, the gold medals went to Tifany Nguyen from Ho Chi Minh City, Le Thi Truc Linh from Tay Ninh, Sy Boi Ngoc from Ho Chi Minh City, Huynh Phi Khanh, also from Ho Chi Minh City and Pham Thi Thanh Binh from Da Nang respectively.

The championship is an annual event jointly held by the Prudence Fund and the Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF), drawing the participation of more than 100 young players from 15 provinces across the country.

National beach volleyball tourney concludes

The 2010 National Beach Volleyball Tournament ended at My Khe Beach in Da Nang City on August 17 after four days of competition, part of the sixth National Sport Festival.

In the men’s event, the first prize went to Nguyen Thanh Vinh and Nguyen Van Thanh from Khanh Hoa province.

The pair from Hai Phong province, Nguyen Thi Mai and Truong Thi Yen took top prize in the women’s event.

The event, co-organised by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the Da Nang City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, attracted 15 teams, including 8 men’s teams and seven women’s teams, from Hanoi, HCM City, Khanh Hoa, Hai Phong and hosts Da Nang.

Tien Minh to compete at World Badminton Champs

Top Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh left Vietnam on August 17 to compete at the World Badminton Championships, in Paris from August 23-29.

Seeded seventh in the world’s ratings, Tien Minh will be up against strong rivals, including World No. 50 Atrashchenkov from the Ukraine.

In his career, Minh has never been defeated by any European rivals, excluding World No. 2 Peter Gade from Denmark. However, Minh will face tough competition when he will have to play against the world’s leading players like Park Sung Hwan from the Republic of Korea and Lin Dan or Jin Chen from China.
