Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh lost to South Korea’s Park Sung Hwan in the third round of the World Badminton Championships in France on August 27.

Before the game, experts anticipated that this game would be very difficult for Tien Minh. Although Park is six spots below Minh in the world rankings, Minh does not usually play very well in games against rivals of similar standing.

Minh lost to the Republic of Korea’s Park Sung Hwan in two sets of 15-21 and 14-21 after 43 minutes of fierce competition.

Park was Minh’s opponent at the Thomas Cup two years earlier. Minh easily defeated Park 2-0, despite Park having homecourt advantage.

Also in the third round, the tournament’s third seed from China, Lin Dan, thrashed Bao Chunlai, another Chinese national, 21-16 and 21-13.

In another match, the number two ranked player in the world, Peter Gade Hoeg from Denmark, beat Germany’s Zwiebler 2-0 while the world’s number 5 player, Taufik Hidayat from Indonesia, beat Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 2-0
