After taking a false step and falling down in a toilet, striker Pham Van Quyen of Song Lam Nghe An club suffered from a face wound on November 16.

Doctors of the Nghe An Hospital in the central province of Nghe An said that his nasal bone was broken. They conducted a surgery on November 17.

The surgery was successful but the striker will have to stay in the hospital until the end of this week.

Van Quyen was the “golden boy” of Vietnam’s football before 2005. He was suspended for involving in a match fixing scandal at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games.

He played football again in January 2009 but didn’t impress fans and  he didn’t score any goals in 2010. He was convened to the national squad in August 2010 but after two drillings, his ankle wound recurred and he left the team.

He had two operations in Singapore in late September, which cost nearly 20,000 USD paid by the Vietnam Football Federation, his club – Song Lam Nghe An, and a sponsor. Doctors said he needs at least six months to recover after the operations.
