Vietnamese badminton ace Nguyen Tien Minh was Friday eliminated from the Guangzhou Asian Games after a 2-0 loss to the host player Lin Dan in the last 8 round.

The world’s number 8 of Vietnam went down 9-21, 16-21 to his superior Lin Dan – the world number 4 after just 37 minutes of competition. In the semis, Lin Dan will take on Park Sunghwan of South Korea, who beat Malaysian Bin Hashim 21-10 and 21-8 in the round of 16.

Earlier, Tien Minh had romped past Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand after two easy wins of 21-9 and 21-12.

On Friday, Vietnam grabbed two silver medals and one bronze to rank 20th on the 45-nation tally with a total of 11 silvers and bronzes each.

As usual, the host country China is leading the table with 126 gold medals. South Korea and Japan follow with 43 and 24 golds respectively.
