A sendoff ceremony was held in Hanoi on Sunday for the Vietnamese teams heading to the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan attended the ceremony to wish the athletes well at the tournament, which opens on Friday.

Speaking on behalf of the Vietnamese sports teams, delegation manager Le Quy Phuong said, “The Vietnamese athletes will do their best for the pride of the country and try to finish among the top 15 at this year’s event. Preparations are complete and everything is ready.â€

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, sprinter Vu Thi Huong promised to do her very best and make the nation proud.

This year’s delegation consists of 392 members of which 260 are athletes who will compete in 27 out of 42 games at the contest.

Except for the football competition, which started on Sunday November 7, the 16th Asian Games will open on November 12 and close on November 27.
