Asian Football Confederation honors Vietnamese coach

VietNamNet Bridge – Coach Mai Duc Chung
of Navibank Saigon football club has received the golden medal of the Asian
Football Federation (AFC).

Former
national referee Do Dinh Hung was also conferred the AFC gold medal for more
than 30 years of his contribution to Vietnam’s football. Hung worked as
a referee for 18 years and was a member of the National Referee Council for
years.

Some
officials of the Vietnam Football Federation – Doan Phu Tan, Nguyen Ngoc Vinh
and Le Nguyen Hong – were conferred with the AFC silver and bronze medals.

The AFC
previously presented its medals to three Vietnamese former football players –
Le The Tho, Pham Huynh Tam Lang and Nguyen Sy Hien.

Mai Duc
Chung is a senior coach who led the national women’s football squad to the
championship of the 22nd and 23rd Southeast Asian Games.
He also led the Olympic Vietnam team to the third qualifier round of the
Olympic Beijing 2008. The same year, the team won the championship of the
Merdake friendly tournament in Malaysia.

In 2009, he
brought Becamex Binh Duong club to the semi-final of the AFC Cup.

Chung is
now the coach of Navibank Saigon at V-League 2011.
