Truong Thanh Hang, Vu Thi Huong
(track-and-field) and Le Bich Phuong (karate) are the top competitors for the
Outstanding National Athlete title 2010.

The selection of 10 national outstanding athletes and five
outstanding coaches 2010 took place in Hanoi, HCM City and Da Nang with the
participation of more than 200 sports journalists and experts.

The list of nominees includes 63 athletes and coaches of 25
sports.

Based on their achievements in 2010, experts said that
Truong Thanh Hang, Vu Thi Huong (track and field) and Le Bich Phuong (karate)
will compete for the most outstanding athlete title. All of them shone at the
recent 16^th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

At the Asian Games 2010, Vu Thi Huong won a silver and a
bronze medal at the women’s 100m and 200m running categories while Thanh Hang
took two silvers for women’s 800m and 1500m running.

However, Huong is more highly appreciated than Hang because
her bronze medal for woman’s 100m running is the first medal of Vietnam at the
Asian Games and she broke the national record for women’s 200m running at the
2010 National Sports Games in Da Nang.

In 2009, Huong topped the list of outstanding athletes with
her gold medal for women’s 60m running at the Asian Indoor Games 2009 and two
gold medals for women’s 100m and 200m running at the Southeast Asian Games 2009.

Thanh Hang was the outstanding athlete in 2007.

Le Bich Phuong (karate) is also an excellent athlete. She
won the only gold medal for Vietnam at the 16^th Asian Games.

Other nominees are chess player Le Quang Liem (silver medal
at 16^th Asian Games, Aeroflot championship, etc.), weightlifter Thach
Kim Tuan (gold medal at World Young Olympic), wrestler Nguyen Thi Lua (gold
medal at 16^th Asian Games, silver medal at Young Asian Wrestling
Championship, bronze medal at the Asian Wrestling Championship), Karateka Vu Thi
Nguyet Anh (silver medal at 16^th Asian Games), Vu Van Huyen
(track-and-field) (bronze medal at 16^th Asian Games), badminton
player Nguyen Tien Minh, male football players Thanh Luong and Minh Phuong and
female footballers Kieu Trinh and Ngoc Anh.

In the poll for five outstanding coaches, the race is among
track-and-field coach Ho Thi Tu Tam, karate coach Le Cong, shooting coach Lam
Minh Chau and Nguyen Thi Nhung and weighlifting coach Huynh Huu Chi.

The organizing board (Vietnam Sports Newspaper) will also
select the top five disabled athletes and top three disabled coaches.
