Grandmaster
Nguyen Thi Thanh An crowned the title in women’s division at the Southeast
Asian Individual Chess Championship that wrapped up Thursday in Singapore.

She became
unbeaten at the five-day tournament with six wins and three ties to grab a
total of 7.5 points after nine rounds.

Two other
Vietnamese grandmasters Hoang Thi Bao Tram and Le Thi Thanh Tu — have followed
on the women’s category after obtaining silver and bronze medals. They scored
7.0 and 6.5 points respectively.

Without
Vietnamese aces Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, master Nguyen Minh
Huy represented the nation at the tourney and ranked fifth on the score sheet
with 5.5 points.

The top
three positions are for grandmasters Azmaiparashvili Zurab from Singapore, Barbosa Oliver of the Philippines and Megaranto Susanto from Indonesia.

The
biennial tournament drew the participation of 32 men and 20 women from five
nations Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines,
Vietnam and the host Singapore.
