Highly sought-after famous coaches in Ho Chi Minh City have had to turn down students, despite the high fees they charge.

With training fees that at least doubles others, these elite trainers have refused a lot of students so far because they don’t have the time.

Many parents wish to have their children trained by elite teachers that can perfect techniques right from the beginning of the course.

The former head coach of the Vietnamese national swim team, Do Trong Thinh, and his wife, Nguyen Kieu Oanh the coach of the Ho Chi Minh City swim team, are among the most sought-after trainers now.

Oanh charges VND800,000 (US$39) for a course of 30 training days at Yet Kieu club in district 1, three times more than normal classes charge. Yet she has had to turn down students.

She also trains students at international schools within the city charging a high fee, she said.

The situation is the same with her husband who trains learners at Lam Son swimming pool in District 5.

“I don’t want my daughters to become professional swimmers, but I just want to see them practice right techniques at the very first moment of training,” said Nguyen Gia Huan, the father of two children practicing with Oanh’s. “My daughters have made fast progress.”

Tennis seems to be a sport that learners are willing to pay a hefty fee to train for with a famous coach.

Coach Tran Duc Quynh, who won the national tennis championship title five times and trained in the US, opened a tennis summer camp on May 24 in Ho Chi Minh City and charges VND20 million ($975) for a two-week training course.
