The Vietnamese Olympic national football team were given an away 2-0 loss by Saudi Arabia in the London Olympic qualifiers yesterday.

Not only blocking the host’s attacks, Vietnamese players launched waves of counterattacks in the first half but failed to convert them into goals.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Arabians men posted a healthy lead into their second leg Olympic 2012 qualifying game after breaking through Vietnam’s stubborn defence just two minutes before the break.

The scoring sheet writes the name of Salman Al Faraj as the author of the opening goal.

In the stoppage time of the game, Vietnam suffered an own goal when Nguyen Van Hau turned the ball into his own goal under pressure.

The second leg will take place on 23 June on My Dinh national stadium in Hanoi.
