Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem, with 2712 Elo points, slid down one notch to 30th position in the latest FIDE world rankings released for June.

As a result of his fourth place finish at the recent 2013 Asian Chess Championships in Pasay, the Philippines, Liem also lost two Elo points this month, said Nhan Dan Online Newspaper.

Despite the slide, Liem remains the second youngest chess player in the world’s top 30, trailing Italian Fabiano Caruana who holds ninth position with an Elo rating of 2774.

Trio Magnus Carlsen (Norway, Elo 2864), Levon Aronian (Armenia, Elo 2813) and Vladimir Kramnik (Russia, Elo 2803) continue to lead the global standings with their Elo ratings of 2800 plus.

As scheduled, Liem and his teammate Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son are competing in the 2013 World Blitz and Rapid Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia on June 5 to 11 before departing for Incheon, the Republic of Korea for the fourth Asian Indoor & Martial Art Games later this month.
