The Brazil-EU Joint Action Plan includes proposals on promoting cooperation in such fields as security, economy, science and technology, social and environmental partnership as well as educational and cultural exchanges.

The news was announced jointly by French President Nicolas Sarkozy whose country is holding the rotating EU presidency, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Durao Barroso and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at a press conference here.

“The partnership resulted from a convergence of interests, which goes beyond the positions we have adopted in the international forums,” Lula said.

“At this moment featured with so much uncertainty and turbulence in the global scenario, we can work together on crucial issues for our countries and the international community,” he said.

Barroso and Sarkozy said the three leaders agreed to take a common position at the next summit of Group of 20 scheduled for April next year in London.

These leaders, however, declined to give details of the proposals they would take to the London summit.
