Romanian democrat liberal Roberta Anastase was elected on Friday evening the new Speaker of Chamber of Deputies.

Graduated from the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Bucharest, Anastase had further studies at the Faculty of Political Science at the same university.

She was vice-president of the Romania Youth Council since 2001, executive secretary of the permanent national office of the Democratic Party since 2003 and president of the Prahova Democratic Party organization since 2006. She was elected member of the European Parliament in 2007.
