The decision was made at a meeting in Gaza, which was attended by Hamas leaders, as well leaders of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War),the Popular Front to Liberate Palestine (PFLP) and the Democratic Front to Liberate Palestine (DFLP).

The four factions said in a joint statement that Israel is fully responsible for not renewing the six-month lull that is scheduled to end by 6:00 a.m. local time (4:00 am GMT) on Friday.

Egypt has brokered a truce between Hamas-led Gaza militants and Israel six months ago. According to the oral agreement, Israel would reopen Gaza crossing points and refrain from carrying out ground operations into Gaza areas.

In return, Gaza militants stop firing homemade rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip at southern Israeli towns and communities. The factions’ leaders said Israel was the one which violated the truce and is responsible for its failure.

Saleh Zeidan, a DFLP leader told reporters in the aftermath of the quartet meeting held in Gaza City that Israel is responsible for the lull’s end because it didn’t end the blockade and didn’t stop its attacks on the Palestinians.

“Israel didn’t fully reopened Gaza border commercial crossing points, it continued targeting the Palestinians in the West Bank and it didn’t left the siege that has been imposed on Gaza for almost two years,” said Zeidan.

He added that during the meeting, the leaders of the four factions agreed to focus on field coordination during the coming period after the end of the truce and call for a resumption of the dialogue to achieve a national reconciliation.

Meanwhile, Walid Helles, one Islamic Jihad leader, who attended the meeting, said that his movement won’t be committed to the truce after it ends on Dec. 19.

“December 19 will be the last day of the truce and then the Islamic Jihad would be committed to defend its people who is facing a siege and an aggression that hadn’t stopped even during the Tahde’aa (lull),” said Helles.

He warned that “the occupation would pay a very heavy price if it targets the leaders of the factions or any one among the Palestinian people.”
