Home Minister Sahara Khatun, who is in BDR headquarters with Army Chief Moeen Ahmed to supervise the rescue operation, told reporters Friday that the army tanks entered the BDR headquarters with the permission of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is in charge of Defense Ministry.

Khatun said the BDR soldiers including the rebels who didn’t run away from the BDR headquarters are in safe place.

According to Police and paramilitary Rapid Action Battalion, more than one hundred BDR rebel soldiers who escaped from the headquarters after the revolt were arrested in different places of the country.

The home minister said the situation in the BDR headquarters is totally under control.

She said the army rescuers will also search for the arms and ammunition in the headquarters.

Thousands of BDR soldiers staged revolt against their army officers over salary and other benefits on Wednesday. The rebel soldiers surrendered Thursday afternoon at the appeal and warning of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Local media quoting police said 21 bodies have been so far found after the revolt and over 100 army officers are still missing. BDR chief Shakil Ahmed, his wife and two children are confirmed to be killed in the revolt.

BDR, whose main task is to protect the country’s borders, is under Home Minister, but its senior officers are all from the Army. Many BDR soldiers complained they have been long-time ignored and repressed by their army officers which is believed to be the main reason behind the revolt.
