The current fatality rate of the epidemic, which has been spreading since last August, is still as high as 4.7 percent, showing that it is still not under control.

In order to say that cholera is under control, the fatality rate has to be below 1 percent, WHO said.

According to the UN agency, all 10 provinces of Zimbabwe have been affected by the epidemic, mainly because of the collapse of the health system amid the country’s economic troubles.

WHO, together with its partners, has set up a Cholera Command and Control Center in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, said WHO spokesperson Fadela Chaib.

The role of the center is to coordinate the response to the cholera outbreak and provide technical coordination for partners, she said.
