“Yes, we are going to increase our troops to Afghanistan,” Kaczynski told newsmen at a press conference after holding meeting with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai here.

Nevertheless, the Polish president did not mention the figure to troops he was planning to send adding the decision had been taken before NATO’s recently concluded summit.

Poland alongside the international community is committed to help bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, Kaczynski further said.

Kaczynski would also visit Ghazni and talk to his soldiers based there.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai for his part thanked Poland for its support in his war-plagued country.

NATO members during the alliance summit concluded last weekend reached an agreement of sending 5,000 more troops for boosting security ahead of critical presidential elections in Afghanistan.

The strength of Polish forces in Afghanistan is currently 1,590, serving under the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to help strengthen security in the post-Taliban central Asian state.
