Briton wins "world’s best job"

A British charity worker has won the “Best Job in the World” as a caretaker of a tropical island on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Fundraiser Ben Southall beat 35,000 people from almost 200 countries to get a 111,000- U.S. dollar- six-month contract.

The 34-year-old will spend half a year swimming, snorkelling and sailing around the tourist paradise. He’ll just have to write a blog about his experiences to promote the area.

The contest by Tourism Queensland is part of an Australian tourism campaign to advertise the charms of northeastern Queensland. Officials say it’s already generated millions of dollars’ worth of publicity for the region.
