A woman suicide bomber detonated an explosive near a traffic police car at a busy crossroads in central Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, Interfax and RIA Novosti quoted local police as saying.

The injured have been hospitalized, said local health officials.

A police source earlier said several people are believed to have been killed in the explosion.

In April, the Kremlin formally ended an anti-terrorist operation in Chechnya, which has experienced two bloody wars in the past 15 years.

The troubled North Caucasus republics have seen a rise in violence in recent months, with attacks on police, officials and troops, and special operations against militants being reported almost daily.
