Major changes on privacy control won’t be far away for Facebook.

Testing a series of changes to its privacy controls for about five months, Facebook decided to make them official, founder Mark Zuckerberg announced Tuesday.

In an open letter, Zuckerberg explained the necessity of new security controls as the social community has now reached more than 350 million people.

One of the major changes is to eliminate “regional networks,” or groupings of people based on where they live, Zuckerberg added on his company’s blog on Wednesday.

The powerful social connector allows people belonging to the same school, club, company or even city to be grouped together as networks. Information and photos of members of the same network are available for each other, sometimes a complete stranger.

“As Facebook has grown, some of these regional networks now have millions of members, and we’ve concluded that this is no longer the best way for you to control your privacy,” Zuckerberg wrote.
