Test of the solid-fuel Sejil 2 deterrent missile is part of Iran’s long-term plans to defend the country’s borders, Press TV said.

Iranian officials have said that Sejil 2 has a range of 2,000 km.

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said that the most distinguished feature of the upgraded missile is its high speed upon entering the atmosphere and upon hitting the ground.

Vahidi said that the surface-to-surface missile would serve as a “strong deterrent” against any potential attack on the country.

Over the past years, Iran has made considerable progress in producing home-made multiple-range missiles.

The United States and other Western powers are skeptical about Iran’s weaponry program, especially those of missiles which could possibly use nuclear materials. However, Tehran contends that its military and nuclear program is of defensive and peaceful component.
