Iraqi electoral commission said Sunday that the full preliminary results will be announced on Friday evening, rejecting recount votes demanded by top Iraqi officials.

“Next Friday at 7:00 p.m. (1600 GMT) the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) will announce the full results at the al-Rasheed Hotel,” Qassim al-Aboudi told reporters at a press conference in Baghdad Green Zone.

Faraj al-Haidari, chief of the IHEC, was at the conference and confirmed that his commission is not capable of recounting the votes as demanded earlier by Iraqi President Talabani and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

“We can’t carry out vote recount only by a demand from a political entity who has doubts about fraud in a polling station, because that means doing the work of the whole country again,” Haidari said.

Aboudi also said that the “recount will mean to rehire the 300, 000 employees who carried out the March 7 voting count process, and that’s almost impossible.”

On March 7, some 62.4 percent of more than 18 million eligible voters turned out in some 8,920 polling centers across the country to vote for the 325-seat Iraqi Council of Representatives out of some 6,300 candidates.
