The general secretary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea
(WPK) made the appeal when inspecting a power station under construction in
the northern city of Huichon, leading daily Rodong Sinmun reported on
Thursday.

During the tour, whose exact date was not specified, Kim
underscored the need to wage a great offensive by mobilizing the whole party
and army and all the people to complete the power station project before the
country marks the centennial of the birth of late leader Kim Il Sung in April
2012, said the report.

It is also very important to build more power stations in
different parts of the country to meet the rapidly growing demand for
electricity, Kim was quoted as saying.

In an earlier tour to a local electrical complex, Kim, who
also serves as chairman of the National Defense Commission and supreme
commander of the Korean Peoples’ Army, praised its workers for modernizing
production with cutting-edge technologies, the daily said.

He also highlighted the party’s “call for pushing back the
frontiers of science and technology on all the fronts and advancing faster to
attain higher goals.”

He lauded the complex’s success in having produced its
latest types of electrical goods with their own efforts and technologies,
according to the report.

Among his entourage was Kim Jong Un, vice-chairman of the
Central Military Commission of the WPK.
