Hanoi to host international workshop on Vietnam studies

6 Chinese scholars will attend the international seminar on Vietnam studies in Hanoi this November. This is the largest number compared with other countries and territories. And one of the issues they care about is the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands.

From 26/11/2012 to 28/11/2012, the international seminar in Vietnam studies will be held at the My Dinh National Convention Centre with the participation of a large number of experts of Vietnam studies from many countries and territories. 

The 4th international seminar on Vietnam studies is held by the Vietnam Institute of Social Sciences in collaboration with the National University of Hanoi.

From the fact of the three previous seminars, the International Conference on Vietnamese Studies has contributed to the development of the Vietnam studies subject in Vietnam and some countries in the world. For example, some of Vietnam studies associations were established in South Korea, the United States, etc. In Europe, a research network of Vietnam named Euro-Viet was formed and it holds an international workshop on Vietnamese studies every two years.

From the development of the Vietnamese studies in the world, many research works about Vietnam have been published abroad, helping people in other countries understand more about Vietnam. Many findings of the Vietnamese studies experts in Vietnam and abroad have really come to life or contributed directly to provide the scientific foundation for the policy making process of the Vietnamese government and the governments of some countries such as Japan, South Korea, the U.S, etc.
 
Recognizing the importance of the development of international relations in the field of social sciences through international seminars on Vietnamse studies, the 4th workshop will be held under the theme “Integration and sustainable development of Vietnam.”

As soon as releasing information about the workshop, the organizing board has received 1,300 articles of Vietnamese studies experts from many countries. From 1,300 posts, the organizing board will choose the best posts for presentation at the upcoming workshop.

Contents of the workshop will be focused on 15 sub-committees on: Vietnamese history, culture and cross-cultural integration and sustainable development, Vietnam's economy in integration and sustainable development, social development and management of social development in integration and sustainable development, ethnic and religious issues in integration and sustainable development and others.

Dr. Tran Duc Cuong who is in charge of the subcommittee on social development and management of social development, said that many foreign experts had sent their articles to the workshop organizing board, including 36 Chinese scholars, 19 Japanese scholars, 10 Korean scholars, 10 Thai experts, 11 Russia experts, 12 American scholars, seven French scholars, etc. In particular, the number of Chinese scholars who are Vietnamese studies experts is the highest.


With the theme "Vietnam on the way of integration and sustainable development," most articles concentrate on this topic. However, with Chinese scholars, they are also interested in Paracel and Spratly Islands.

Dr. Tran Duc Cuong said the organizing board did not expect such a high number of Chinese scholars. Chinese scholars study a lot about Vietnam, in many contents, many areas, including Paracel and Spratly Islands. After the workshop, the organizing board is also expected to talk and exchange with Chinese scholars on these issues.
