The Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
Of the total investment, 14.4 million EUR comes from Germany in the form of grant and soft loans and the remaining sourced from the state budget.

The project will be carried out between now and 2015, focusing on increasing income and generating jobs through eco-tourism for residents in the park’s buffer zone, which covers 13 communes with a population of 56,000.

Within framework of the project, a special operation fund will be set up to help boost patrols in the park and build a close coordination among local residents, forest rangers and the authorities to reduce illegal logging and poaching.

Asian-Pacific unionists focus on working environment

A harmonious labour relationship and a better working environment for sustainable production growth were the major topics at a workshop sponsored by the Union Network International-Asian & Pacific Regional Office (UNI-Apro) in Ho Chi Minh City on September 23.

The event, which drew over 60 delegates from Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, plus the hosts Vietnam, emphasised the role played by trade unions in maintaining and generating jobs for the workforce.

UNI-Apro Secretary Christopher Ng said labour and professional unions should further promote their role in negotiating and formulating relevant policies in an effort to ensure and generate jobs in companies at the national, regional and international levels.

Ninh Thi Dung from the Labour Union of Industry and Trade said that employment promotion and income improvement for workers would be a key factor in guaranteeing harmonious labour relations in enterprises.

The Vietnam Post Union was admitted to the UNI-Apro at the event.

First chemistry workshop for overseas Vietnamese

The first workshop on chemistry and chemistry technology for overseas Vietnamese will be held in Paris, France, between November 7-8.

The workshop organisers expect to attract more than 100 scientists, including overseas Vietnamese and those living in Vietnam , said the organising board, adding it aims to build links between Vietnamese chemists, regardless their work is at home or overseas.

According to the Overseas Vietnamese Committee, 300,000 out of 3 million overseas Vietnamese living in 90 countries and territories are intellectuals, with the majority residing in France, the US and Australia.
