The giant phone can work on the GSM network, and has all the functions of normal phones, including SMS. Moreover, the wielder of the phone can listen to music through three 100 W loundspeaker, watch videos, take pictures with a 2megapixel camera, record sounds, use GPRS. It also has a bluetooth connection. The screen of the mobile phone was made from a 42-inch plasma TV.

Nguyen Xuan Linh, the director of the centre, who was also the consultant to the team of producers, said that while explaining to learners about the functions and the structure of mobile phones, he found that the current well-known mobile phones prove to be too small for them to see easily.

“We decided to manufacture a big mobile phone for easier viewing, while we did not aim to name ourselves in the Guinness book,” Linh said.

“All the accessories of the mobile phone were easily found and not expensive,” said Dang Danh Nghia, one of the engineers of the phone.

The most expensive part of the mobile phone was the cover of the phone, made of wood. The producers had to spend VND30mil ($1,875) on the cover, both materials and processing cost. The producers initially planned to use a composite cover, but only a wooden cover provides the needed thickness.
