VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam is going to add another digit to the existing landline phone numbers in October to increase subscribers, according to a request by the Ministry of Information and Communcations (MIC).

VNPT officials said the system will accept the conventional dialing for the next two weeks starting October 5. Vietnam’s landline phone system has a 6 digit number, excluding two big cities of Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City with 7 digit numbers.

Vietnam announced the changes of landline phone numbers to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) two months ago. It helps the Union update the changes to its website and other ITU publications.

The changes will add more 80 millions subscribers for Ha Noi and HCMC respectively and nearly 8 million subscribers for each other provinces, said VNPT.
