Vietnam ranks 5th worldwide for development of Zombie

According to a report by Symantec on spam emails in October, the volume of spam emails containing files in zip and rar formats, which cause data failure, is increasing quickly. These emails are often delivered from servers that are compromised by hackers from around the world, mainly from South Korea, the US and Vietnam.

Symantec also reported that Europe, the Middle East and Africa lead the world for the number of zombie computers (a computer attached to the Internet that has been compromised by a hacker, a computer virus, or a trojan horse). Generally, a compromised machine is only one of many in a botnet, and will be used to perform malicious tasks of one sort or another under remote direction. Most owners of zombie computers are unaware that their system is being used in this way.

Notably, Vietnam is among the top ten countries that have the highest growth of zombies, ranking the fifth with a growth rate of 540%, behind South Korea (4,236%), Kazakhstan (761%), Rumania (607%), and Arab Saudi (555%).

Vietnamese websites enlisted in Google’s blacklist

Recently, Internet users couldn’t go on many Vietnamese websites since they are listed by Google as harmful sites, reported the country’s leading network security agency, BKIS Centre.

Once a website is in this list, those who use Firefox and Google Chrome browsers are prevented from accessing the site by Google Safe Browsing, a plugin with Firefox and Google Chrome.

BKIS’s Chief of Application Security Division recommended Vietnamese webmasters to check whether their websites have malware or not. If the site does contain malware, the first must-to-do task is tackling the malware on the server and then access the Google website to release the site from the blacklist.
