VietNamNet Bridge – At 9:00pm Monday, Prof. Tran Dong A, former Deputy Director of the HCM City-based Children’s Hospital 2, announced the operation on a 10-month-old baby was successful.

The operation at the HCM City-based Children’s Hospital 2

The surgery started at 9:00am and finished at 9:00pm of the same day. Doctors faced some difficulties during the operation since the liver donor, the baby’s mother, has some special liver blood vessels, which are different from the child’s.

By 5:00pm on Monday, the mother recovered and could meet with her family.

The operation finished at 9:00pm but the child still needed respiratory support. Doctors did a scan which revealed that the liver blood vessels were normal. This is considered a good sign in liver transplant cases.

Today doctors will examine the child again. This is the sixth successful liver transplant operation conducted at the HCM City-based Children’s Hospital 2 so far.

Doctors will continue taking care of the mother and child for a long-term period.
