VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam’s mobile phone network MobiFone officially launched its Fast Connect service Thursday.

The service will help its customers connect to the internet and send text messages from computers anywhere covered by the MobiFone network.

At a press briefing introducing the new service, director of MobiFone’s Charge and Marketing Department Dinh Viet Hung said that MobiFone covered 98 per cent of provinces and cities across the country.

The success of the Fast Connect service would facilitate the company to further provide other services, he said.

With the current Fast Connect service package, customers will pay only VND1,990,000 (US$119) for service and subscription charges for 12 months, getting a discount of 50 per cent.

MobiFone plans to offer more charge packages for the Fast Connect service to meet customer needs, such as a prepaid package, postpaid package and other SMS services.

Since it was set up in 1993, MobiFone has become the most popular mobile phone network in Viet Nam with almost 25 million subscribers so far.

The company is striving to have 10,000 base stations and 30 million subscribers by the year-end.
