VietNamNet Bridge – Many mobile subscribers in Hanoi were cut off from mobile services this weekend as some base transceiver stations had no power.

Viettel used generators to support these stations but this solution was ineffective.

Since Saturday, many subscribers of VinaPhone and Viettel networks in Linh Nam, Thanh Tri district, have not been able to call or receive calls.

Su Manh Ha, a resident of Nguyen Tam Trinh road, said because he could not connect to his network he faced a lot of difficulties on his wedding day, Saturday, November 1.

Sam Huyen, who lives in Dinh Cong, Thanh Tri, said that her area was isolated until Sunday because of flooding. She could contact the outside world by fixed phone only because mobile services were down.

Vo Thanh Hai from Viettel’s Public Relations Department told VietNamNet that this past weekend, because of flooding, power went out in Thanh Tri and Tu Liem districts. Consequently, over 20 of Viettel’s base transceiver stations were inoperable.

Hai said Viettel used generators to support these stations but this solution was ineffective. The firm also dispatched mobile transceiver cars to these areas but the cars couldn’t reach them because of flooding.

However, by Sunday, around 80% of the stations were working normally.
