VietNamNet Bridge - Sun Microsystems and BT Frontline have announced the official launch of Sun Vietnam (photo), with the opening of its first Hanoi office on Nov.12.

The joint venture was established to take advantage of Vietnam’s rapaidly growing interest and demand for enterprise-class IT services and solutions.

The company said that the world-wide partner equity programme was modeled on a franchising concept, using partners to effectively manage Sun branded operations.

The Hanoi office is the world’s first establishment under the Sun Equity Partner programme.

Gan Boon San, the president of Asia South, Sun Microsystems said “Sun is committed to assisting in Vietnam ’s growth by providing access to enterprise-class technologies, as well as the development and cultivation of the community to rapidly adopt and adapt new technologies.”

He said Vietnam has been one of the key growth drivers in Asia Pacific for Sun.

“While we are celebrating the opening of Sun Vietnam today, we have been investing and developing talent in Vietnam for years. Today, we have more than 17,000 developers from Vietnam signed onto the Sun Developer Network,” he added.

Established in 1982 in the US , Sun is one of the world’s leading network companies, operating in more than 100 countries.

BT Frontline Pte Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of British Telecommunications, is a provider of end-to-end IT services, mainly active in Asia.
