VietNamNet Bridge – Though hi-tech agricultural industrial zones have been set up in 18 provinces and cities, local authorities are confused in developing these zones, said the Chief of the Local Science and Technology Department (Ministry of Science and Technology) at a recent workshop in HCM City.

According to a survey by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 63 provinces and cities, besides the HCM City Hi-tech Park and Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park in HCM City and Hanoi, 18 other provinces have hi-tech zones where hi-tech projects invested in by major groups are implemented.

Yet, Dr. Ho Ngoc Luat said that few of them are operating as true hi-tech industrial or agricultural zones where advanced technologies are employed.

Luat said many provinces are confused in defining the operation model and development orientations for the hi-tech field. They also do not have available human resources for this kind of hi-tech.

The official suggested buiding some exemplary hi-tech zones at key economic regions.

Provinces that have hi-tech industrial and agricultural zones:

1. Quang Nam: Construction material production line of Dong Tam Co., Ltd., Piston Plant of Cheng Shing Piston Company, Roofing Material Plant by Truong Son Youth Corp., Viet Han Telecom Cable Factory of Viet Han Investment and Production JS Company, Automobile Plant by Chu Lai Truong Hai Auto JS Company.

2. Hai Phong: Hi-tech Agricultural Zone, the industrial zones of Nomura Hai Phong, Dinh Vu, Do Son, Trang Due and Nam Cau Kien.

3. Bac Ninh: The industrial zones of Que Vo, Tien Son and Yen Phong

4. Khanh Hoa: Hi-tech Agricultural Centre in Suoi Cat commune

5. Son La: Moc Chau Hi-tech Agricultural, Moc Chau Sci-tech Agricultural-agro Transfer and Application Zone

6. Vinh Phuc: Ba Thien 1 Hi-tech Industrial Zone

7. Phu Yen: Hi-tech Agricultural Zone
