VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Information and Communications has launched its software testing laboratory. Do Cong Anh, director of the Centre for Technology Transfer, spoke to Cong Thuong (Industry and Commerce) newspaper.

The laboratory will offer advice to enterprises to make better choices about IT solutions or products which address their requirements.

In addition, the laboratory will assist software developing companies to have higher quality products through monitoring and evaluation activities as well as tests.

As Viet Nam is integrating deeper into the world, many foreign IT companies are present in Viet Nam making the IT market more competitive. Hopefully, the laboratory will help Vietnamese IT companies sharpen their competitive edge. That’s the key role of the Institute for Information and Communication Strategy and its laboratory.

What impacts will the laboratory have on government offices and enterprises?

The laboratory will help government offices and enterprises have a deeper perspective on the IT choices they make.

For example, a big corporation with five affiliates across the country wants software to manage the corporation files with 1,000 users. Before buying the software, they don’t know if the software can address their needs. That’s where the laboratory comes in. It will do the test and provide the results to the corporation.

Do you think the laboratory will be competent at performing its job?

I think the modelling solutions and evaluation by the laboratory will provide accurate results. Of course there will be comprehensive documentation of the properties and capacity of the software.

However, a lot of software has good properties and high capacity but limited application due to the human skill factor.

My centre has drawn many good lessons from working with various government offices and enterprises about the issue of qualified IT staff in using the software.

It is one of our key objectives to help the offices and enterprises make the best use of the software they buy by providing them with good analysis of the products.
