VietNamNet Bridge – Viettel is the only Vietnamese telecom firm named in the 100 largest telecom brands in the world, ranked by Informa plc, a world-renowned organisation that releases scientific, social and economic statistics.

Viettel ranks 83^rd on Informa’s list, with brand value worth $536 million. It even stands above Singapore’s SingTel.

Viettel is also one of the four best providers of telecom services in developing countries, according to a recent survey by the UK’s Terrapin.

The Vietnamese company’s position on the ranking list, based on the number of subscribers as calculated by Wireless Intelligence under the Global System Mobile Association (GSMA), is rising. It jumped from 53^rd in the first quarter of 2008 to 42^nd in the second quarter and stands at 41^st at present, among over 650 telecom service providers in the world.

Viettel currently has more than 25 million subscribers. Its revenue for 2008 is estimated at VND32 trillion, or over $1.88 billion.
