VietNamNet Bridge - After testing telecommunications services successfully in Cambodia, the Military Telecom Corporation is considering and carrying out projects for setting foot in other foreign markets like Laos, Myanmar, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Cuba and Venezuela.

By the end of 2006, the Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel) officially promoted their services in Cambodia and become the first Vietnamese telecom enterprise to directly invest oversea.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) was the debut service, followed by mobile and internet service. After only two months after receiving a license in Cambodia, Vietnam swiftly grabbed 20 percent of the local international telephone market.

By the end of 2008, Viettel announced that they had become the second largest telecom provider in Cambodia.

They said Laos was second in their plans. They have been in contact with local telecom providers to complete 200 base transceiver stations. They have 50,000 subscribers already.

At present, Viettel is waiting for a license to setup an agency in Myanmar. This is the first step to installing a telecom network there.

They are considering investments in DPRK, Cuba and Venezuela.
