However, such losses are not properly anticipated as organisations and enterprises don’t have enough awareness on this issue. At the moment, some organisations and enterprises have invested into their IT systems but not in the security of their database system. In fact, investment for network security is quite costly.

For example, when an internet virus is created and spreads, suspending entire networks, that can cause a loss of millions of US dollars. If the money had been invested in security from the beginning, the losses wouldn’t have been so large.

What exactly are the weaknesses in the way enterprises protect themselves online? Which weakness do hackers exploit most?

Enterprises are usually careless when developing their IT systems. They often buy solutions and products from foreign companies. Enterprises’ IT systems are designed and built based on foreign equipment and technologies while foreign operating systems have security gaps, which hackers will exploit.

What is your advice on network security for enterprises?

First of all, people should raise their awareness on laws regarding this issue. Sometimes, ordinary people can become hackers and attack the IT system of an organisation or enterprise. There needs to be awareness not only on people outside but also those inside the organisation.

As for enterprises, they should pay more attention to network security to have appropriate policies. Supplements for security will always create security gaps. The main principle of good network security is appropriate and adequate investment should be made from the beginning.
