VietNamNet Bridge – More than 40,000 Ngoc Linh ginseng trees were moved from Ngoc Linh Mountain to some districts in the central province of Quang Nam, namely Tr’hy, Ch’om and Phuoc Loc. These trees are reportedly developing well in the new ground.

Director of the Quang Nam Provincial Department of Health, Dr. Pham Nguyen Cam Thach, initiated the movement of the rare Ngoc Linh ginseng trees from the peak of Ngoc Linh Mountain, at the height of 1,800m above sea level, to the communes. These communes have a similar climate as Ngoc Linh Mountain.

This project has been going for two years and experts say that more than 80% of the 4,000 trees have been developing normally. Tests show that the quality of ginseng from these trees is similar to that from those from Ngoc Linh Mountain.

This project has created an opportunity for local farmers to escape hunger and poverty. The Vice Chairman of Quang Nam province, Nguyen Ngoc Quang, said the local government will invest in this project to expand the area for Vietnamese ginseng in mountainous districts.

Besides acclimatizing Ngoc Linh ginseng trees to new lands, the local government plans to build a factory to process products from Ngoc Linh ginseng.

Ngoc Linh ginseng or Vietnamese ginseng (Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv) is a specialty of Quang Nam province, and only previously grew on Ngoc Linh Mountain.
