VietNamNet Bridge –The Ministry of Information and Communications has issued a new circular guiding management and use of the Internet. This one doesn’t have an article banning the trade of domain names like the old one.

In its previous document numbered 92/2003, the ministry banned the transfer, lease, and trade of Internet resources in any form. The domain name is seen as a kind of natural Internet resource.

Speaking about the new circular, the Vietnam Internet Centre’s PR Manager Nguyen Duy Duong said that the new document doesn’t ban the trade and transfer of domain names. However, such activities are not free but have to obey the circular on solving conflicts over .vn domain names.

Notably, national .vn domain names are not subject to the Intellectual Property Law. Brands, labels, product names, copyright, works in domain names will not be protected if they are registered for online protection only and vice versa.
