Le Minh Xuan Industrial Park in Binh Chanh District has violated environmental regulations, the HCM City’s People’s Committee said on Tuesday.

The city released a report that showed the consolidated waste-water treatment system in Le Minh Xuan Industrial Park did not meet the required standards on water quality.

Sixty-two per cent of waste water samples taken from the industrial park were in violation of the regulations.

The city said waste water from the industrial park’s consolidated water treatment system had been dumped into canals around the complex.

The inspection discovered black and smelly water in six canals running through the park.

At least 27 out of the 57 enterprises in the industrial park have violated the requirement on connecting their wastewater collection and wastewater treatment plant systems.

In addition, many companies there were using shoddily built wastewater treatment systems and pipes.

According to the city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, inspectors are currently determining the amount of each fine.

Inspectors asked the industrial park development company to upgrade the consolidated wastewater collection system and violators to stop dumping waste water in canals.
