Lookatvietnam – The five mobile phone service providers VinaPhone, Mobifone, Viettel, S-Fone and EVNTelecom have said that they will strongly reduce the price of SMS, calls and public phone services this year.

The estimated decrease will range between 10 and 15 per cent. In addition, the providers will run promotional programmes with benefits like more money for subscriber accounts and selling SimCards with cell phones.

According to service providers, since the infrastructure is already well established, they will easily profit from offering more services.

Mobifone Director Le Ngoc Minh said that in the current economic difficulties, consumers had to curb expenses. Mobile phone service providers had to offer cheap phone packages with attractive promotions to maintain their subscriber growth and increase revenue, he said. In addition to cheap phone packages, Mobifone would continue to reduce mobile phone charges to stimulate the market, said Minh.

In the first quarter of this year, Vietnammobile, shifting from HT Mobile, will offer the new mobile phone prefix 092. The provider is expected to offer cheaper rates than the other providers.

Mobifone tops survey

The Information and Communications Quality Control Directorate under the Ministry of Information and Communications said that of the five domestic providers, Mobifone ranked first for mobile phone service quality.

Mobifone’s call quality hit 3.522 points, followed by Viettel which stood at 3.517 points and VinaPhone at 3.383 points.

Mobifone also had the lowest rate of interrupted calls at 0.29 per cent. Viettel ranked second with 0.35 per cent and VinaPhone took the third place with 0.5 per cent.

The directorate also announced that the quality of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) services was ranked after the Global System for Mobile Communication service (GSM) in 2007 and 2008.
