VNPT invests 1 billion USD in faster internet services

| Look At Vietnam – The Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) has announced that it is to invest around 1 billion USD in developing its broadband network and expanding its international bandwidth this year in an effort to further improve the quality of its internet services.
The majority of the new internet lines will run on an international optical cable line, AAG, which provides a direct connection between Southeast Asia and the US , according to VDC, Vietnam’s largest internet service provider (ISP). To date, VDC has upgraded its international internet transmission capacity to 32 Gbps (Gigabytes per second) and manages up to 60 percent of Vietnam’s international internet bandwidth. By the end of 2008, VNPT boasted more than 1.3 million ADSL subscribers, accounting for 60 percent of the country’s total number of ADSL users. It’s long-established fixed line network, together with the national broadband network, enables VNPT to act as the sole provider of ADSL services in every district across the country.
