A wood processing company in the southern province of Binh Duong, Kaiser Vietnam, was discovered to be using cracked software products worth nearly VND1 billion ($58,800).

Inspectors checked computers at the office of Kaiser Vietnam on March 24.

Inspectors of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Public Security paid a surprise visit to the Taiwanese-invested company in My Phuoc Industrial Zone on March 24. They found a large number of software items illegally installed in 92 computers.

The breached software products are very popular ones, such as Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Lac Viet dictionary, and Vietkey, totalling nearly VND1 billion in value.

The company’s General Director, Huang Shih Tsung, admitted that his company used some software without copyrights.

Inspectors said that last week they warned many computer shops on Le Thanh Nghi street, Hanoi, about the implementation of the intellectual property law.

The chief of the Copyright Agency of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vu Manh Chu, said that up to 85% of computer software, 80-90% of audio and visual recording products in Vietnam violate intellectual property rights.
