The Tra Vinh Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. in Duc My district in the southern province of Tra Vinh has shipped four containers of “clean soil” to Australia, totalling 72 tonnes, to earn $24,000.

This kind of “soil” is processed from coconut shell waste. The company’s Director Huynh Van Dung said the firms invested over VND10 billion ($588,000) to build a factory processing this type of “soil”. Thanks to this factory, discarded coconut shells have become a useful product.

According to Dung, coconut shells are processed to destroy all impurities and acridness. They are then dried and compressed into blocks. This kind of “soil” is nutritious, very suitable for ornamental trees.

Dung said Tra Vinh province annually harvests 200 million coconuts so his company will not lack materials. This firm will export “coconut soil” to Taiwan and Japan.
