The major reason for the death of a dozen tons of fish on the Nhue River has been defined as some sources of waste water were suddenly discharged into the river, said the Hanoi People’s Committee.

The capital authorities have told the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to cooperate with local authorities to take measures dealing with pollution, particularly on the section from Lien Mac sewer in Tu Liem District to Cau Den in Ha Dong city.

In naming the polluters, the city will inspect some companies located along the river, such as Z157 factory, the Army Printing Factory, and the Weapon Design Institute.

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to request enterprises and craft villages to treat their waste water before discharging it in to the Nhue Riveer.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has also instructed the Nhue River Irrigation Company to open the Lien Mac sewer for water from the Red River to flow into the Nhue River to dilute the Nhue River’s water. However, the situation is not improved remarkable because the Red River’s water level is quite low at present.

The Nhue River is extremely polluted. The water is black and has scum. The fish population has dwindled and there are none left due to the water pollution.
