Rangers say that they discovered more than 2,000 traps a month on average in 2008. In 2009, they have had to dismantle nearly 5,000 traps in the Cat Tien National Park per a month. Traps are very diverse in type and size.

Wildlife hunters also use nets to catch monkeys, electric pulse machines, guns and guns with poison to kill wild animals.

Professional hunters install traps in networks. Some networks include hundreds of traps. Any animal that falls into these networks cannot escape. Many rare species of animals have been caught by traps, including ten gaurs.

The Forest Protection Bureau of the Cat Tien National Park say that they detect hundreds of illegal wildlife hunting cases annually, arresting 150-170 hunters and seizing a lot of equipment and guns serving illegal hunting.

The caught wild animals are often sold to wildlife traders in some communes of Lam Dong, Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc provinces, where Cat Tien National Park is located. In March 2009, competent agencies seized more than 280kg of wild animal meat within two days.

Rangers of the national park have uncovered over ten places that have been trading wild animals for many years.

The latest survey by Vietnamese and international scientists has verified that Cat Tien National Park is home to 1,610 flora species and nearly 1,490 fauna species, including 103 rare animals such as the Javan rhino, gaurs, fresh-water crocodile, white-necked crane, and red-necked hill partridge.

With these natural blessings, Cat Tien has the most abundant biological diversity in Vietnam, and is a veritable natural laboratory for natural scientists.
