Two integrated circuit-design laboratories worth US$ 20 million were inaugurated by the Vietnam National University’s Integrated Circuits Design Research and Education Centre (ICDREC) in HCM City on April 27.

Officials visited an integrated circuit design laboratory in HCM City.

The two labs are located at the ICDREC and the HCM City Polytechnic University. Each lab is equipped with 20 laptops, one server and integrated circuit-design software funded by two US integrated circuit-design companies, Mentor Graphics and AMCC.

ICDREC’s Director Ngo Duc Hoang said that these are the first integrated circuit-design labs of the HCM City National University to serve the university’s teaching and research of integrated circuits.

The labs are open for researchers, lecturers, students of the National University and the National University’s subsidiaries.

Hoang said the centre will send employees to Singapore or invite experts from the two American sponsors to Vietnam to train Vietnamese staffs in using the integrated circuit-design software.

He noted that the above software would be used for teaching, not for commercial activities.
