VietNamNet Bridge – The Hanoi-based Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park on May 20 granted investment certificates to two projects of FPT University and the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), worth nearly $280 million.

The project to build FPT University in the park will be carried out on 30 ha of land, at a cost of nearly $170 million. The university will be able to train 10,000 students and provide around 2,000 IT engineers who are fluent in English and Japanese a year.

VNPT’s project to build a postal and telecom centre in the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park has the total capital of over $105 million.

As the first hi-tech centre in Vietnam, Hoa Lac, around 30km from Hanoi’s centre, has a total area of nearly 1,600 ha. Thirty-four projects were licenced in the park, with a total capital of $750 million. Twenty-five others totalling $2.4 billion are under discussion and consideration.

Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Van Phong said that the park is expected to become a city of sciences that provides sufficient facilities and human resources for sci-tech research and development to speed up Vietnam’s industrialisation and modernisation process.

At present, Vietnam has two large hi-tech centres, Hoa Lac and the HCM City Hi-tech Park, and ten software parks in HCM City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Can Tho, Hue city and Hai Phong.
